Walmart has opened the 100th location in its own fast-charging network at a Supercenter in Monument, Colorado. The US retailer owns and operates the chargers itself and is gradually rolling them out across its store network.
Most of the charging locations offer between eight and 16 fast-charging points with outputs of up to 400 kW. They come with both CCS and NACS connectors, covering most electric vehicles currently on US roads.
“By expanding EV fast charging at Walmart locations across the country, we’re giving drivers a dependable way to charge while they’re in the store,” said Shayne Wahlmeier, Senior Vice President of Walmart Energy. “Reaching 100 sites is an important milestone, and our broad footprint positions us to make EV charging more accessible for communities while expanding the ways we serve our customers.”
Walmart has not said how many individual charging points are currently online across the 100 locations. Given that most sites have eight to 16 stalls, however, the number of charging points is considerably higher than the number of locations.
The retailer intends to continue the rollout in markets where it sees a need for more fast-charging infrastructure. It is working with local utilities and other partners to bring additional locations online.
