Ox Alpha, a new AI model whose creator has not been identified, appeared on OpenRouter last week, drawing attention from developers with free access and a roughly 1 million-token context window. The model was released on Aug. 20 and is described on OpenRouter as built for coding, long-running software tasks, and workflows that combine text and visual input.
According to its OpenRouter listing, Ox Alpha carries the designation "stealth model," with the page noting that an unnamed third-party provider built and runs it and has opted to stay anonymous while the preview is underway. OpenRouter says it routes requests to the model but is not its developer, owner, or provider. Prompts and completions are retained by the provider and are not used for training, according to OpenRouter.
Stripe CEO Patrick Collison called the model "very impressive" in a post on X $TWTR, according to TechCrunch. Stripe is in the process of acquiring OpenRouter for more than $7 billion, a deal that would give the payments company a foothold in AI infrastructure.
