Visitors to Kodiveri anicut were disappointed on Monday (August 24, 2026) as there was hardly any water flow at the popular tourist spot, owing to the poor water storage level in the Bhavanisagar Dam.The dam, which has a full reservoir capacity of 32.8 tmcft, had only 5.05 tmcft of water. With the storage level at 52.46 ft against the full reservoir level of 105 ft, only about 100 cusecs was being released into River Bhavani for drinking water requirements.Kodiveri anicut, constructed across the Bhavani about 17 km from Gobichettipalayam, attracts visitors from various parts of Erode and neighbouring districts as well as Karnataka. However, the absence of a visible water flow at the anicut has affected the tourist footfall and business of local vendors.Shops selling snacks, tea, fish, cooked food and other items recorded poor business on Monday. Traders said visitors were disappointed after finding little water at the anicut. “Summer heat is already intense. A good flow of water would have made the visit more enjoyable,” said a visitor from Nambiyur.River Bhavani carries water to the Arakkankottai and Thadapalli irrigation canals as well as the Kalingarayan Canal. With water release for irrigation having been halted, the flow in the river has reduced considerably. The average inflow into the Bhavanisagar dam was around 500 cusecs. While a few visitors took bath in the limited water available, others preferred to have refreshments at the shops and leave the spot.
