More than ₹8 lakh in cash has been found in the rented house of an elderly woman who survived by begging in Guthalu locality of Mandya, following her death on Sunday (August 23, 2026).The deceased has been identified as Hoor-Un-Nisa, who had been living alone since the death of her unmarried sister two years ago. The two sisters had reportedly lived together for several decades and depended largely on alms for their livelihood.After Hoor-Un-Nisa died of age-related ailments, local residents and community leaders entered the house to make arrangements for her funeral. During a search of the premises, they reportedly discovered more than 30 bags containing cash and other valuables.

Nearly 20 bags are yet to be opened and counted, raising the possibility that the total cash could be considerably higher.
