Romania scrambled two F-16 fighter jets and an IAR-330 SOCAT military helicopter after its radar surveillance system detected aerial signals near the border with Moldova, with one of the signals later identified as a drone in Galati County.
The incident occurred at around 6 a.m., according to Romania's Ministry of National Defense, as reported by the Romanian national news agency Agerpres.
The ministry's radar system initially detected intermittent aerial signals in Moldova's Cahul region. One of the signals was subsequently detected in the area of Targu Bujor in Galati County, on the Romanian side of the border.
In response, two F-16 aircraft and an IAR-330 SOCAT helicopter were deployed from Borcea Air Base to monitor the situation. Romanian military authorities continued surveillance of the airspace in the area.
The Defense Ministry later identified the object detected near Targu Bujor as a drone.
