A ceremony marking Ukraine’s Independence Day was held at Sophia Square in Kyiv, attended by President Volodymyr Zelensky, First Lady Olena Zelenska and high-ranking foreign guests.

Among the foreign dignitaries attending were, in particular, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Andy Burnham, Prime Minister of Luxembourg Luc Frieden, Prime Minister of Latvia Andris Kulbergs, President of Moldova Maia Sandu, President of Estonia Alar Karis, President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda and President of the European Council António Costa.
“Today marks 35 years of our independence. Thirty-five years since the moment when the Act of Declaration of Independence of our state, the independence of Ukraine, was adopted. Before that, many people did not believe that Ukraine would become independent. At the time, the world’s strongest intelligence services could not give their presidents and leaders a confident forecast that Ukraine would truly be independent. But Ukrainians restored the independence of their state. Ukrainians preserved the independence of their state. And we will definitely defend Ukraine’s independence. There is not, not a single doubt about that,” Zelensky said in his speech.
