A class one student was reportedly bitten by a venomous snake inside a South Kolkata school on Monday morning, school authorities said. This is the second such incident in the city in the last week. The teacher-in-charge of the morning section wasted no time and rushed him to the SSKM hospital (less than two kilometres away). He was admitted. The doctors said it was a venomous snake, and he was given anti-venom. He is doing fine now,” said Raja Dey, headmaster of Mitra Institution in Bhabanipur.The student, identified as Dipra Pal, was admitted to the SSKM hospital and given anti-venom injection.The incident took place around 8.40am, authorities said. Pal’s parents, along with the police and forest department officials, were informed.Authorities said the forest department also searched the classrooms; however, no snake was found. We have purchased carbolic acid and bleaching powder to sprinkle,” Dey said.Mitra Institution, a school over a century old, is located in Bhabanipur, South Kolkata, near the residence of former chief minister Mamata Banerjee.This is the second such incident in the city in the last week. However, Dey said that he “never heard of such an incident in this school.”On August 18, a class three student was bitten by a snake in a private English medium school in East Kolkata. She was admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata. The child was discharged a day later.
