Nearly half of Lithuanians view positively the ruling Social Democratic Party’s decision to replace the prime minister, according to a poll by Baltijos Tyrimai commissioned by public broadcaster LRT released on Monday.
The survey found that 47% of respondents approved of the decision to appoint Mindaugas Sinkevičius as head of government in place of Inga Ruginienė – 11% viewing the move very positively and 36% somewhat positively. By contrast, 30% considered the change negative, split between 6% who were very negative and 24% somewhat negative. A quarter of respondents had no opinion or did not answer.
Support was strongest among the Social Democrats’ own voters, 71% of whom viewed the swap positively against 15% negatively.
Supporters of the Nemunas Dawn party were the most critical, with 42% holding a negative view and 31% a positive one.
Voters of every other party leaned more positive than negative overall.
