Turkish club Besiktas on Sunday released an extraordinary statement, claiming the referee’s display in their 1-0 defeat to Alanyaspor “has taken its place in history as a document of shame for Turkish refereeing”.Besiktas went down to Nuno Lima’s 73rd minute goal in a shock away defeat, despite dominating the match – finishing with 15 shots to their opponents’ five and the vast majority of possession.Afterwards, the Istanbul club criticised referee Adnan Deniz Kayatepe and the video assistant referee (VAR) Bulent Birincioglu, saying they do not want to see the “malicious” pair officiating their matches “ever again”.Among the incidents which frustrated Besiktas was what they described as a “slap” on Leandro Trossard, a summer signing from Arsenal, which went unpunished by Kayatepe and Birincioglu, and a disallowed goal by South Korean forward Oh Hyeon-gyu.Alongside the statement, Besiktas released a video montage of four incidents which did not go their way, also including two challenges on forward Dusan Vlahovic. It was captioned: “Positions are different, seasons are different, names are different, decisions are always the same!”
