Five parties are projected to enter Kazakhstan’s new 145-member Kurultai, according to early exit polls. Parties needed at least 5% of the vote to win seats in the new legislature.
The election was Kazakhstan’s first parliamentary vote under the new Constitution, which replaced the bicameral Parliament with a single-chamber Kurultai.
The three exit polls put Adilet’s support between 70.7% and 72.3%, positioning the party for a commanding majority in the new 145-member unicameral Parliament, the Kurultai.
In other words, the poll projects around 109 seats for Adilet in Kurultai, giving the party a dominant majority.
The newly established Adilet Party, formed in April, absorbed Amanat, the country’s largest political party, ahead of the election.
