The symposium chaired by Premier Li Qiang with experts and entrepreneurs in July came at a critical juncture in mid-year. Against the backdrop of the current economic situation and with an eye to China's long-term development, the meeting laid out systematic arrangements for economic work in the second half.

The meeting highlighted three major priorities in policy focus. Macroeconomic policy is moving from implementing existing measures to giving greater emphasis to both existing and incremental policies.

Efforts to expand domestic demand are shifting from investment primarily in physical assets to a coordinated approach that combines investment in physical assets with investment in people.

At the same time, industrial upgrading is moving beyond technological breakthroughs to focus more on the large-scale commercial application of such advances.
