As the saying goes, you never know what you’re going to see when you attend a baseball game.That held true after Seattle Mariners center fielder Julio Rodríguez caused reliever José A. Ferrer to open the sixth inning with a 1-0 count.The reason?Rodríguez was tossing a baseball into the crowd well after Ferrer ran out of warmup pitches and with Chicago Cubs second baseman Pedro Ramírez ready for his at-bat.

It’s not even the worst loss they’ve had in the last week. That honor goes to a 22-0 thrashing by the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday, a loss that tied the modern-era MLB record (since 1900) for the largest shutout.And like Rodríguez’s club, it’s also not even the worst gaffe by the outfielder this week!In that 22-0 loss, Rodríguez evidently forgot how many outs there were and tossed a live baseball into the stands of American Family Field, allowing Milwaukee to score its 21st run on what was originally a routine sacrifice fly.
