If looking for one player who has been the biggest winner of Virginia Tech's fall camp, there are plenty of reasonable answers. Marlion Jackson has seemingly played his way into the conversation for a starting role. True freshman Davion "FatRat" Brown has also impressed enough to make his name part of the conversation. One can argue for a player like running back Jeffrey Overton Jr., who's taken some first-team reps at running back. Or Kemari Copeland, who seems to have strengthened his grip as the leader of Virginia Tech's defense,
But if we're talking about the biggest winner as a whole, I'd argue it's the Virginia Tech wide receiver room. Entering fall camp, there was a fairly obvious top two at wide receiver. Ayden Greene is coming off a productive 2025 season in Blacksburg, catching 31 passes for 516 yards and three touchdowns. Que'Sean Brown, meanwhile, arrived from Duke after catching 64 passes for 846 yards and five touchdowns last season.
The real question entering camp was what would happen behind them, and that's where things have gotten particularly interesting.
There still isn't a definitive answer for Virginia Tech's third starting wide receiver right now.
Jackson might have the strongest case at the moment. The Louisiana Tech transfer came to Blacksburg with plenty of experience and has reportedly been one of the more impressive receivers throughout camp. He brings a combination of size, experience and versatility that could make him a natural fit alongside Greene and Brown. Tyseer Denmark, who compiled 45 receiving yards over two years at Penn State, could be an option as well. During the uncontested catch drills, he ran third, going right after Greene and Brown.Chanz Wiggins, a former four-star recruit has dealt with injuries during his time at Virginia Tech, but his physical tools have never really been in question. At 6-foot-3, 196 pounds, Wiggins gives the Hokies a bigger target on the outside and possesses the athleticism to create problems once the ball is in his hands. If Wiggins can finally put together a healthy season, he could be the type of player Virginia Tech has been waiting to see break through.
