Chargers guard Kayode Awosika threw 49ers defensive lineman Sebastian Valdez to the ground while pass blocking during an 11-on-11 period. Valdez fell into the back of Biadasz’s leg. Biadasz went down immediately and was carted off the field.Through last week, Biadasz was gathering additional opinions, hoping to play again this season. On Thursday, after the Chargers lost to the 49ers in a preseason game at SoFi Stadium, coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed Biadasz had suffered an ACL injury. Harbaugh said then that the prognosis “doesn’t look promising.” But Harbaugh would still not rule Biadasz out for the season.Jim Harbaugh keeps striking gold with defensive coordinator picksRobert MaysNow it’s official. The Chargers signed Biadasz to a three-year, $30 million free-agent contract this offseason. The former Washington Commander and Dallas Cowboy was one of their most important additions under new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel. Biadasz was a clear scheme fit because of his ability to block on the move. He was going to provide a distinct upgrade over Bradley Bozeman, who had started at center in each of Harbaugh’s first two seasons with the Chargers. The Chargers will turn to rookie Jake Slaughter as Biadasz’s replacement. The Chargers drafted Slaughter in the second round in April. The initial plan was for Slaughter to compete for the starting left guard job. That plan has changed with Biadasz’s injury. Slaughter has looked comfortable at center during training camp and the preseason. That is the position he played exclusively in college at Florida. In Slaughter, the Chargers have a viable contingency. Still, this puts a damper on a summer filled with quite a bit of promise for the Chargers. Last year in training camp, the Chargers lost starting left tackle Rashawn Slater to a season-ending knee injury. This year, they have lost another starting lineman to injury before they even began the regular season.
