AIICO Insurance Plc has moved to protect its corporate reputation and business integrity after what it described as a sustained campaign of false and misleading allegations by a former agent, Obinna Adolphus Nwosu.

The insurer said Nwosu, whose agency appointment was terminated, has continued to circulate allegations against the company through regulatory and law enforcement channels, media organisations, digital platforms and direct communications with stakeholders.

AIICO said it was taking the matter seriously because repeated unsubstantiated claims could damage the confidence of customers, employees, regulators, investors and other stakeholders in the insurance company.

Rather than engage in a public war of words, the insurer said it has chosen the courts as the appropriate avenue for resolving the dispute and has commenced a defamation action against Nwosu at the Lagos State High Court.

The company said Nwosu’s appointment as an agent was terminated and that it subsequently published a public notice in national newspapers on June 26, 2025, warning customers and members of the public against continuing to transact or maintain any business relationship with him on behalf of, or in connection with, AIICO.
