Tangle Teezer The Complete CarebrushTangle TeezerFor many women, their hair is an investment. Who hasn’t put in loads of time and money at the salon to get the perfect cut and color? Our showers are filled with top-notch shampoos, conditioners and masks, and we have the hair tools to complete the quest for lustrous, healthy hair. But what about your hairbrush? It’s likely the item in your hair care routine you give the least thought to—but it can have a major impact on detangling, styling and especially the health of your hair.Enter Tangle Teezer The Complete Carebrush, a first-of-its kind brush that causes 70% less breakage on all hair types compared to standard hairbrushes, according to independent testing. It rethinks everything a hairbrush can and should be. That’s why it took five years to develop and over 45 iterations.“It’s all about healthy hair, but also people are starting to look for more benefits,” says Heather Page, Global Innovation Director at Tangle Teezer. “This brush is really focused at what we call the beauty and benefits consumer. No one has innovated in the hairbrush category, and people are wanting more and no one's offering it. We wanted to create a multi-benefit hairbrush that glides, detangles, massages and shines.” The basis of the creation of Tangle Teezer The Complete Carebrush was on how hair flows through a brush. The original Tangle Teezer brush was created to work as a hairbrush and comb simultaneously to detangle hair, which is why it has two tiers of teeth—the longer ones act like a brush and the shorter ones like a comb. The Complete Carebrush takes this to the next level with their next-generation teeth technology.Tangle Teezer The Complete CarebrushTangle Teezer“A hairbrush has two purposes: It’s there to detangle, but it has to not break the hair,” Page says. “Those two things are quite hard to get to a sweet spot. What you want to do is allow hair to flow, be detangled, but not meet any harsh or sharp surfaces. When it actually hits something, that's when your hair breaks.” That’s why the bristles of The Complete Carebrush are on a diagonal instead of straight rows. Page compares hair going through a brush the way water moves as a river. When you brush your hair, you’re sweeping the brush up and going underneath, so there are different points of entry. One of the most noticeable things about The Complete Carebrush is the long teeth that are alternately spaced, creating a scalp massage and helping hair to move through the brush without friction. “What that means is one goes one way, one goes the other, and it’s like a pinball machine, so it's guiding hair, but gently detangling it,” Page says. “It's almost like these are your first sorters. These teeth are round and different lengths. The long teeth are ovals because as hair passes, it smooths the cuticles as it goes, but also it doesn't break because an oval has no sharp surfaces. This is where you get your shining, less frizz element from the [shorter] tiny teeth that are actually like triangles. If we go back to the river analogy, you've got hair flowing through the brush as it enters on the long teeth. It then gets pushed down into the teeth which get through the tiny knots.” Since there wasn’t much existing research on brush teeth, Tangle Teezer had to do their own, testing across different hair types, length of bristles, row length and brush shape, hence the lengthy development time. The tips of the teeth are tapered at the ends to get into hair, but it won’t hurt the scalp because the tips are flexible.Tangle Teezer The Complete CarebrushTangle Teezer“It works with your hair no matter what angle you start at, making it a really effective styling tool as well,” says Kathleen Moor, Head of Marketing at Tangle Teezer. “Once my hair is blow dried and curled and I want to smooth it during the day or do that final detangle before that finishing hairspray or texturizing spray, I’m reaching for The Complete Carebrush because it doesn't pull my curls out; it just smooths and softens the final look. It's an elevated experience where you feel like it is that finishing brush as well as that utilitarian detangler for a midday touch-up.”The Complete Carebrush is available in three versions, according to hair type: Curly to Coily, Straight to Wavy and Fine. The differentiator between the three is the hardness of the brush. A different type of plastic is used for each category. The brush for fine hair is soft and flexible, while the Curly to Coily is stiffer and stronger to work through textured hair. Having a different brush for each hair type is another element that makes the brush a gamechanger. “People are starting to understand their hair types and also celebrate them,” Page says. “You're starting to see people embrace their natural hair type instead of going ‘I've got to straighten my hair.’ We're the only brand that truly does all our testing across all the different hair types that really talks to them. It’s more curated.”Tangle Teezer The Complete CarebrushTangle Teezer People can instantly feel how different the bristles are when they run their fingers over the bristles of the three hair type brushes. “We’re leaning heavily into hair type education because if you accidentally purchase one for the wrong hair type, you won't get that personalization benefit that we've worked so hard to deliver,” Moor says. “The experience of picking the right brush for you is what we're trying to lean into on the marketing side and making sure you're seeing yourself within the models that we choose and the messaging that we have, so that everyone feels represented.”Designed to be ergonomic, The Complete Carebrush is created to be intuitive. Your hand will naturally go to the right place and your thumb will sit exactly where it should. It has also been tested to work seamlessly in the right and left hands, plus in different directions and angles. Additionally, it has a larger paddle because people have longer hair now. The engineering department designed the parts of the brush to fit snugly so that no water gets in. The brush can be used in the shower to detangle. However, it can’t be used with a hairdryer or with hot tools because heat can damage the brush. Testing revealed that 80% said The Complete Carebrush is unlike any brush they’ve used before, plus 84% agreed their hair looked healthy and shiny, and 77% said their hair was instantly smoother and less frizzy. By cutting down on breakage, it also helps hair grow longer and stronger. “We're trying to create an icon,” Moor says. “What we want to do is make people think of Tangle Teezer synonymously with the best hairbrush they've ever used. It’s cool to show what made The Complete Carebrush completely change the category.”
