She once revealed a casting director branded her a 'lanky freak' in the early stages of her career, while a drama teacher cruelly said she would never work on screen because 'she looks like one side of her face had a stroke'.However, today the 52-year-old Hannah Waddingham is world's away from receiving such negative remarks.Fans now regularly marvel at the London-born actress's ageless beauty during her performances and red carpet appearances.Hannah – who was catapulted to superstardom after appearing on Ted Lasso, an Apple TV show about an American football coach managing a British team – looks just as youthful as she did at the age of 25.So, what are the secrets behind the West End star's complexion? Clinical facialist and skin health expert Smita Ahluwalia gave her insight.Speaking to the Daily Mail, Smita said: 'Hannah has spoken about not liking intrusive treatments, so I definitely think LED light therapy would be part of her routine.'It's probably something she uses at home regularly. It’s such an easy way to support the skin and stimulate collagen without doing anything invasive.'The expert also suggested the A-lister could be using chemical peels (which exfoliates the outer layer of skin) or oxygen facials (where non-invasive, high-pressure devices fire oxygen at the skin). Hannah Waddingham at Prime Video's 'Ride or Die' series premiere in New York in JulySmita added that the star may use lymphatic drainage too, which is a specialised massage to reduce inflammation and remove excess fluid.Clever makeup tricks may also be a way for Hannah to add to the youthfulness of her appearance, claimed beauty expert Laura Kay.She told the Mail: 'Hannah looks incredible and is defying the laws of aging and embracing her natural beauty.'At 52, the actress doesn't appear to be trying to make herself look dramatically younger, and instead, her make-up enhances her features and gives her that incredibly polished, radiant finish.''The cleverness about Hannah's makeup and beauty look is that she never looks overwhelmed by product,' said the founder of Laura Kay London.'For me, the real beauty lesson from Hannah is that looking youthful doesn't have to mean trying to remove every sign of ageing. 'Good make-up technique is about knowing where to add definition, where to add colour and, importantly, where to leave things alone.'Laura suggested Hannah is likely to use a CC cream instead of heavy foundation and define her eyes with plenty of eyeliner, mascara and shading.'Although I'd say she is a fan of heavier eye makeup, she gets the balance around her eyes right,' said the expert. 'She balances the heaviness against much fresher skin rather than having strong make-up competing across the whole face. She is certainly not afraid of wearing more dramatic makeup on her eyes even at 52.'She loves using bronzes, browns and warmer smoky shades which are particularly flattering around her green eyes.'Laura continued: 'Hannah offsets her defined eyes with fresh pink rosy blush to contour her cheekbones. Hannah at the Shaftesbury Theatre aged 25, before the West End star was catapulted to superstardom after appearing on Apple TV's Ted Lasso'A relatively fresh-looking complexion is ultimately Hannah's biggest beauty trick. Her base often appears tinted with sun-kissed bronzer, and my guess is she uses a liquid or cream blush product to create a dewy and luminous finish that reflects the light, making the skin look fresher, plumper and more youthful.'Her lips are always glossy pink and lip colour and formula can play a crucial role in your overall appearance. 'Hannah's lips look so youthful because she avoids dark or matte finishes, which in your 50s can make lips appear thinner and emphasise fine lines. Glossy and satin lip finishes are much more flattering.'Meanwhile, Smita – a skin health expert – suggested Hannah likely relies on amazing skincare such as using SPF every day, plenty of hydration and vitamin C products. She added: 'I would imagine Hannah has regular peels too. Her skin always looks really bright and luminous, and peels are brilliant for removing that build-up of dead skin cells, improving texture and giving you that glow.'Lymphatic drainage is another one. You can have this professionally, but you can also do some simple lymphatic massage yourself at home to help with puffiness and get everything moving.'I think she probably has treatments like oxygen and hydration facials as well. Not everything has to be aggressive. Sometimes the skin just needs to be really well hydrated and nourished.'Joanne Evans, the founder of treatment studio Skin Matters, echoed this and said: 'Hannah looks after herself so well you can see she takes care of her body and skin and she is a wonderful example of a woman who looks incredibly fresh and radiant without looking as though she's trying to erase every sign of ageing. Hannah's protein-packed, nutrient-dense diet and 'good quality' skincare add to her healthy and radiant appearance'What stands out to me is the quality of her skin. It looks hydrated, healthy and luminous, while she has retained natural expression and movement. 'For me, that is one of the biggest secrets to looking youthful as we get older. It isn't necessarily about removing every line; it's about maintaining healthy skin, good hydration, collagen support and facial structure.'Joanne said that as women move through their 40s and 50s, they 'naturally produce less collagen and elastin and the skin can become drier and slower to repair'.'A consistent routine that protects the skin barrier and maintains hydration can make an enormous difference to how fresh and plump the skin appears,' she added. The expert continued: 'I would be looking for ingredients such as peptides, hyaluronic acid, glycerin, ceramides, antioxidants and retinoids where tolerated. 'You don't necessarily need dozens of products; it's consistency and choosing products appropriate for your skin that matter.'What I would say is that Hannah still has natural facial movement, expression and character, which I think is beautiful. Looking youthful doesn't have to mean looking line-free.'For me, Hannah demonstrates something I tell my clients all the time: healthy skin is youthful skin. At 52, the aim shouldn't necessarily be to look 32. 'It's about keeping the skin hydrated, resilient and functioning well, supporting collagen and maintaining the natural architecture and expression of the face. You can have lines and still look incredibly youthful when the skin itself looks healthy.'Hannah has made it clear that she runs a strict regime when it comes to the ingredients that feature in her skincare as she avoids 'rubbish', and shared her love for brands such as La Roche Posay, Rimmel and MAC makeup. She told Women's Health how she's taking a 'lower-intervention approach' to ageing, adding: 'I’m not one for the Band-Aid of something appearing to make you smoother for a couple of months... It’s just not for me.'Hannah, who prioritises collagen-stimulating facials every three to four weeks, said her fear of needles has also helped her decide what beauty treatments work for her. When it comes to her glowing complexion and youthful-appearing skin, Hannah believes in investing in good quality skincare. 'I'm absolutely obsessed with very, very good products. No rubbish,' she previously told Harper's Bazaar. Her routine includes Weleda Skin Food Light to keep her body moisturised, while on her face she uses Dr. Barbara Sturm's Super Anti-Aging Serum. To cleanse, which the star says she does twice, she makes good use of Elemis' Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm and Superfood Facial Wash to remove make-up, SPF and daily impurities. She also dedicates one minute each day to a gua sha massage, a facial massage technique thought to encourage lymphatic drainage, helping to reduce puffiness and leave skin looking refreshed.
