The Telangana Health department has issued a general health advisory to citizens in view of the week-long rainfall forecast for the State, warning of a possible rise in seasonal illnesses.In the advisory issued on Sunday, the Director of Public Health and Family Welfare said IMD Hyderabad had forecast light to moderate rainfall across Telangana over the next seven days, with heavy rainfall alerts for several districts during the next three days. “Such weather conditions are expected to bring lower temperatures and higher humidity, which could trigger an increase in seasonal diseases,” it said.The department advised residents to take precautions against mosquito-borne diseases such as malaria, dengue and chikungunya by using mosquito nets or screens, mosquito repellents and ensuring that drains are maintained to prevent water stagnation. It also advised households to cover septic tanks with mesh to prevent mosquito breeding and observe the ‘Friday-Dry Day’ every week to eliminate stagnant water around homes.The department advised people developing flu-like symptoms, including cough with fever, headache, sore throat and body pains, to visit the nearest government health facility. In case of a health emergency, residents can call the 108 ambulance service.“The government has also made arrangements for special beds, intravenous fluids and essential medicines at public health facilities. Medicines and oral rehydration solution (ORS) sachets have been made available with ANMs, ASHAs and Anganwadi workers to meet any exigencies,” the advisory added.
