The Kwara State Government has urged young people to look beyond white-collar employment and embrace skills acquisition and entrepreneurship as alternatives for securing their economic future.
The Commissioner for Youth Development, Ndanusa Shehu, gave the advice in Ilorin on Saturday while speaking on opportunities available to young people across different sectors.
He said the limited availability of conventional jobs made it necessary for youths to acquire marketable skills and explore opportunities that could enable them to become self-reliant and, ultimately, create jobs for others. “Rather than focusing only on white-collar jobs, our young people should take advantage of opportunities to acquire skills, develop their talents and embrace entrepreneurship,” Ndanusa said.
The commissioner said the government would continue to engage youths and work with relevant stakeholders to expand opportunities for their development. He added that the ministry was collaborating with development partners, parents and other stakeholders to encourage young people to channel their energy towards productive activities.
