The police in Maharashtra’s Latur have registered a first information report against Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of the Cockroach Janta Party political campaign, for allegedly entering a government school without permission, threatening teachers and defaming the institution, reported PTI on Saturday.The FIR was registered on a complaint filed by Sayyed Shamshadbano Khairatali, a teacher at a Zilla Parishad Urdu school. He alleged that Dipke had entered the school in the Jawali area near Ausa, sat among students and asked them several questions. This disrupted education and government work, alleged Khairatali.Dipke had met the students as part of the political campaign’s nationwide drive to improve the condition of government schools. The Cockroach Janta Party has been sharing videos on social media recorded by its volunteers showing government schools functioning in poor condition in several states.After visiting the school near Ausa, Dipke shared a video on social media in which students could purportedly be heard saying that they had been brought there from another institution.In his complaint, Khairatali alleged that Dipke had defamed the school by claiming that students from another institution were made to sit in the classroom before his visit. He also alleged that the Cockroach Janta Party founder threatened to get the teachers suspended.The FIR against Dipke was filed under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections pertaining to assault or use of criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging their official duty, house trespass, criminal intimidation and criminal defamation, reported PTI.Counter-FIR in JaipurMeanwhile, an FIR was registered against team members of the Cockroach Janta Party that had gone to inspect a government school in Rampura Kanwarpura village of Jaipur’s Bagru Assembly constituency earlier that day. The team had been assaulted during their visits, with videos shared on social media showing some persons shouting slogans, hitting them with sticks and throwing rocks at their vehicle. The Cockroach Janta Party had alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party sent “goons” to assault its team. Ashutosh Ranka, the campaign’s co-convener, had said that residents of the village were not involved in violence. He also shared videos on social media, showing that the school in the village had been operating in a buffalo shed for several years. The school building has reportedly been declared unsafe.A member of the team had filed a complaint and demanded that those responsible for assaulting them should be arrested immediately, reported PTI. Later on Friday evening, a villager filed a complaint, alleging that Cockroach Janta Party members had intimidated the residents of the area, Rajesh Gautam, the station house officer at Shivdaspura, was quoted as saying by the news agency. Gautam said the villager had also claimed that children were scared about attending school after the incident. Following this, Ranka said that the campaign had evidence to prove that who attacked the team were workers of the BJP. “If they also have evidence, let them show it,” he was quoted as saying.Edited by Sneha.
