Two alleged cybercriminals involved in an ₹85,000 fraud case were arrested from Delhi, cybercrime police said on Saturday. They have been identified as Manohar (30) and Ankit Gupta (20).The victim received an APK file that he installed, following which money was transferred from his bank account.The FIR was registered at the cybercrime police station on May 8 after a Chandigarh resident reported that ₹85,000 had been fraudulently debited from his ICICI Bank account linked to UPI. During the investigation, it was found that a fraudster had sent an APK file to the complainant’s mobile phone. Once the victim installed it, the mobile phone was compromised.Officials said ₹45,000 was credited to a Federal Bank account allegedly belonging to Manohar, and ₹40,000 was credited to an SBI account allegedly belonging to Ankit Gupta. The money was withdrawn through an ATM. Acting on technical and field investigations, a police team conducted a raid in Delhi and arrested both accused. Two mobile phones and an ATM card were recovered from them.Police claimed that during interrogation, the accused allegedly disclosed that another person was also involved in the crime. One-day police remand of both accused was obtained. After completion of the remand, both were sent to judicial custody.Sections 318(4) (cheating), 319(2) (cheating by personation), 336(3) (forgery), 338 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc.), 340(2) (forged document or electronic record) and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita have been invoked, officials added.
