But one social media interaction left the Olympic champion genuinely puzzled. The seven-time Olympic gold medalist recently recalled an awkward exchange with an unnamed influencer after she reached out for a hairstylist recommendation. What began as a simple beauty question quickly became an interaction Biles still finds strange enough to remember years later.Simone Biles opens up about the influencer DM that went wrongBiles said she had followed the influencer for some time because she admired her fashion, content and, especially, her consistently polished hair. At the time, Biles was also paying close attention to her own hair after facing repeated criticism over her appearance during gymnastics competitions. Her curiosity eventually led her to send a direct message asking about the stylist behind the influencer's looks. The answer, however, was not what Biles expected."The reason why I followed her is because I loved her style, her content," Biles said. "She was super, super cute, but her hair was always laid to a T. Like, I could not tell if that was her real hair or a weave. And at the time, I was like …I would say, particular about hair."Biles explained why the question mattered to her at the time."I didn't really give a f*** that much, but, like, y'all have been bullying me for so long about what my hair looked like during competitions so I'm like, 'OK, if my hair looks like that, they're not gonna say anything.'"The response from the influencer, though, caught Biles off guard."She replies, 'Bless. My manager has it. I'll have to ask her,'" Biles said, slamming her tablet closed. "What? You don't know who does your hair when you go to your hair appointments? You don't have their contact or Instagram? Like, I get gatekeeping, but to a certain extent."Rather than seeing the request as a possible attempt to take the stylist, Biles said she simply wanted another option available when traveling. She also pointed out that she and the influencer lived in different states, making the idea of directly competing for the same hairstylist seem unlikely. Why Simone Biles still remembers the strange exchangeBiles eventually unfollowed the influencer, but the encounter apparently stayed with her. She admitted that she continues to think about the exchange and remains unsure whether she was overreacting or whether the response was genuinely unusual."And mind you, we lived in two different states, so I think maybe she thought, like, I was gonna steal her hairstylist or something, but that's not at all what it was. I travel all the time, so if I'm ever in that area, like, 'Hey, let me get slayed real quick.'"Biles later put the entire situation to her followers, turning an uncomfortable memory into a funny social media moment."But isn't that weird? Is that weird or that's just me?" she asked. "Does that happen to y'all? I don't know. I just. To this day, I still think about it, and it cracks me up, but also, like, what? Yeah. I don't know."The gymnast has also shown that she is perfectly comfortable reaching out to celebrities herself. At a July appearance at the Faces of Fitness festival in Chicago, Biles shared another amusing social media story involving singer Avril Lavigne. After Lavigne apparently ended up with her YSL sunglasses, Biles said she sent a direct message asking, "Yo, can I get those YSLs back?"Lavigne had not responded at the time Biles shared the story. Together, the anecdotes offer a glimpse of Biles away from competition: direct, playful and willing to laugh about the odd encounters that follow life in the public eye.
