I've promised myself I'd "manage my time better" more times than I can count. None of it lasted a month.
Work harder. Cut the distractions. Stay focused. Every one of those resolutions quietly died, and for years I didn't notice the pattern, because there was always a good excuse. A friend visited. I got sick. Two deadlines collided.
Here's the thing I finally admitted: anything that runs on willpower stops when willpower runs out. Obvious in hindsight. Invisible while you're inside it.
So I changed the approach. Instead of trying harder, I'd build something once that keeps giving time back without me trying at all. A system. The diet version of this: don't white-knuckle past the snacks every day. Move the snacks where you can't see them.
The problem was the starting point. "Build a system" is not a first step. What do you build first?
