Less than a month after locking in his commitment to Tennessee, Westview Chargers running back Asa Barnes showed the Volunteers exactly why they fought off Arkansas, Florida State, and USC to land him. MASE brought a talented and physical roster to the field, headlined by four-star defensive lineman and Ole Miss commit JaMarkus Pittman, the No. 2-rated defensive lineman in the country according to recruiting services. Pittman lived up to the billing, wreaking havoc in the trenches and giving Westview's offensive line fits throughout the night. Coming off a junior season in which he rushed for 1,208 yards and 25 touchdowns on his way to a Class 3A state championship, Barnes proved his production was no fluke. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound back also made his presence felt on defense, coming up with an interception and delivering a few big hits that helped Westview force the key turnover that swung momentum in the Chargers' favor. Barnes has built a reputation around West Tennessee for being a player who shows up whenever his team needs a spark, and Friday night was another example of that competitive edge.
