The Office star Lucy Davis was in good spirits as she reflected on her life and career with close pals Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright, days after revealing she is living with incurable stage four breast cancer.Bex April May20:17, 22 Aug 2026Lucy Davis delivered an emotional message to fans as she made a happy appearance alongside friends Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright following her devastating cancer diagnosis.‌The actress, 53, was in good spirits as she took to the stage at For the Love of Fantasy & Sci-Fi at London's ExCeL on Saturday, where she reflected on her career, shared memories with her former co-stars and offered some heartfelt advice to the audience.‌Her appearance comes just 11 days after Lucy revealed publicly that she has been privately living with incurable stage four breast cancer for around 18 months.‌And receiving a warm welcome from the packed crowd, Lucy admitted the support of fans has left her feeling hopeful.Speaking about the community of fans, she said: “It’s like this whole second family you never knew you had. Everyone is like a community, friendly, supportive of us, but you guys and each other. So I’m quite hopeful about that, to be honest.‌“We need a bit more niceness in the world, and we get it here. So I’m grateful for you guys.”Lucy later gave an emotional statement about refusing to allow other people to tell you what you can achieve in life.Asked what advice she would offer others trying to pursue their ambitions, the actress said: “Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do or be anything that you want to do or be.”‌“We all grow up just with lies from the world telling us that we all have limitations, and none of us do. Our only limitations are the things that we think are limiting us. You can do anything and be anybody, and don’t apologise for it.”The poignant words come less than two weeks after Lucy shared with the world that she had been diagnosed with stage four breast cancer a year and a half ago.‌The actress revealed the cancer had metastasised to her bones, including her spine, right hip and ribs, and said it was incurable and too late for chemotherapy.Lucy explained that the first sign had been a tiny hard spot which she almost did not get checked, and used her announcement to urge others not to dismiss changes in their bodies.She has also spoken candidly about living with significant pain and said she sometimes uses a wheelchair when walking or standing for long periods becomes difficult.‌But Lucy made clear that she is determined to spend the time ahead enjoying her life and doing what she loves, including continuing to act for as long as she is able.Just two days after revealing her diagnosis, she returned to social media to thank people for the huge response, admitting she had been overwhelmed by the messages she had received. She even found humour in several people mistakenly posting messages suggesting she had died, reassuring fans that she was “still alive - hurrah”.And Lucy remained characteristically funny and upbeat during Saturday's appearance as she looked back over a career which has made her a familiar face to millions.‌She shot to fame as receptionist Dawn Tinsley in Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's BBC comedy The Office in 2001.Her slow burning romance with Martin Freeman's Tim Canterbury became one of the most beloved storylines in Brit TV history, with their eventual kiss in the Christmas special providing one of the defining moments of the series.‌Lucy went on to appear in cult zombie comedy Shaun of the Dead in 2004 alongside Simon, Nick Frost, Kate Ashfield, Dylan Moran, and Bill Nighy.Her career later took her to Hollywood, where she played Etta Candy opposite Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman, before taking on the role of Hilda Spellman in Netflix's Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. She has also appeared in shows including Black Books, Ugly Betty and Death in Paradise, and is the daughter of comedian Jasper Carrott.Reflecting on some of the stranger moments her success has brought her, Lucy recalled one particularly surreal encounter involving legendary director Quentin Tarantino.‌She revealed that while attending a Shaun of the Dead screening years ago, she unexpectedly found herself sitting next to the Pulp Fiction filmmaker. “Quentin Tarantino sat next to me and was chatting to me, and then he drove me home,” she laughed.Lucy also shared affectionate memories of making Shaun of the Dead alongside Simon and director Edgar, remembering the close knit atmosphere between the cast.Asked for her favourite part of the shoot, she said: “I loved when we were all pretending to be zombies and trying to walk across the square.”‌“The camaraderie between everyone… It was like we were naughty school kids!”Simon revealed that he, Lucy and Nick Frost would spend their downtime inventing ridiculous songs together. He said: “Me and Lucy and Nick used to just make up silly songs, and we had a whole album of songs. I wish we could release that.”‌Simon told fans the cast had no idea at the time that Shaun of the Dead would go on to become such a cult hit.“We had no expectations,” he said, “We didn’t know if it would be seen by anybody other than our parents.”“But it didn’t matter to us, because we were just in that bubble, and it was a really great time. I’ll always treasure that shoot.”More than two decades later, the friendship between the old friends was still clear. As the panel came to an end, Edgar embraced Lucy on stage before the pair walked off arm in arm.
