“Insidious: Out of the Further” leapfrogged “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” and took the No. 1 spot at the domestic box office on Friday, but Marvel’s webslinger is still poised to win the weekend.
“Out of the Further,” the fifth installment in the “Insidious” franchise, grossed $10.6 million on Friday from 3,303 North American theaters. By Sunday, the supernatural horror romp is expected to pull in $23.7 million for Blumhouse and Sony.
The latest “Insidious” is coming in below its predecessor, 2023’s “The Red Door,” which opened to $33 million. “Out of the Further” cost only $18 million to produce, and the horror genre remains one of the most consistent box office draws, so it should have no problem turning a profit despite the dip.
“Out of the Further,” from director Jacob Chase, follows a young mother who discovers she can travel into a dimension called the Further and bring the demons who live there back into the real world. Cast members include Lin Shaye, Amelia Eve, Island Austin, Sam Spruell, Joseph Lopez, Maisie Richardson-Sellers and Brandon Perea.
This weekend’s other major newcomer, “Mutiny,” landed in fourth place on Friday after earning $2.8 million from 2,703 screens. The Jason Statham vehicle is targeting a $7.4 million opening, which is below similar titles like 2024’s “The Beekeeper” ($16.5 million) and 2025’s “A Working Man” ($15 million), but above “Shelter” ($5.2 million), which released earlier in 2026.
