The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on Saturday said it has taken major enforcement action in recent times which includes issuing 150 notices to food companies, over 20 notices to five-star hotels and over 30 notices to restaurant players. It noted that products have also been seized and licenses have also been suspended as part of this enforcement action.This refers to the ongoing crackdown by FSSAI against food business operators across various sectors for non-compliances and violations of regulations.“ FSSAI takes major enforcement action against leading food brands, retail chains, and luxury hotels to curb non-compliance and protect consumer interests. Ensuring strict adherence to regulatory standards remains essential to maintaining transparency and safety across the food supply chain,” it said in an Instagram post.The food safety authority noted that 150 notices were sent to various food companies for “misleading ads, false claims and labelling non-compliances.” It said notices were issued to various companies including Nestle India, Mondelez India, Abbott India, Danone India, Coca-Cola India, PepsiCo India, Diageo, Pernod Ricard, Ferrero India, Kenvue Inc, Red Bull India, Hell Energy, Monster Energy India Ltd among others, it noted.It added that products were also seized from several companies including PepsiCo, Red Bull India, Kenvue, Monster Energy India, Diageo and Pernod Ricard among others. This refers to FSSAI directing beverage players to remove “energy drinks” descriptors from the labels of their products. Also, the Authority recently pulled up alcobev players over the violations related to added flavours in products such as rum and whisky.FSSAI noted that 12 notices were issued to quick commerce platforms, Amazon Now and Flipkart Minutes which also led to cancellation of one license of a warehouse of Amazon.Outlining action taken against food service establishments, the FSSAI said notices have been sent to five-star hotels and restaurants. It added that this was done due to non-compliances relating to declaration of calories as well as menu labelling. It said notices were issued to major international franchise hotel operators including Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt , Radisson, Four Seasons and Shangri La among others.Highlighting action taken against restaurant operators, the FSSAI in its social media post said, over 30 notices have been issued to food service establishments including KFC, Domino’s, Pizza Hut, McDonald’s and Costa Coffee among others. It added that “five licenses of Domino’s” outlets have also been suspended.
