A 27-year-old labourer, who turned to illegal firearms trade in a bid to make quick money, was arrested with two 9 mm pistols, a double-barrel country-made gun and 19 live rounds by the Malkajgiri Zone Special Operations Team (SOT) and Bollaram police on Saturday.The accused, Parbhans Kumar, a native of Gagipur district in Uttar Pradesh, was intercepted near Sadhana Mandir in Bollaram at around 5.50 a.m. on Saturday based on a tip off. Police seized two 9 mm pistols, three magazines and 17 live rounds, besides a double-barrel tappancha with two live rounds and a mobile phone from him.Malkajgiri Police Commissioner B. Sumathi said that Kumar had allegedly planned to buy firearms in Bihar and sell them at higher prices to people in Hyderabad who were looking for weapons for criminal activities.According to the officer, Kumar, a class V drop out, worked as an agricultural labourer and lorry cleaner. In 2021, he allegedly became addicted to marijuana and turned to drug peddling as his earnings as a labourer were insufficient to fund his expenses. He was arrested by Cherlapally police in 2024 in connection with an NDPS case.After leaving the Cherlapally area, he moved to Bihar Basthi in Patancheru and worked as a daily-wage labourer at an iron and steel manufacturing unit. Police said he then allegedly devised a plan to enter into the firearms trade to make quick money.As part of the plan, Kumar travelled to Bihar on August 10 and allegedly contacted a person identified as Sonu, from whom he procured the firearms and ammunition.
