The Prohibition and Enforcement Wing (PEW) of the Tiruchi City Police seized 3.5 kg of ganja from an autorickshaw near Somarasampettai on Friday and arrested three persons, including a woman, on charges of possessing the contraband for sale.Based on a tip-off, the police intercepted the autorickshaw and allegedly found Prabhakaran, 40, Jegan, 38 and Sangeetha, 42, possessing ganja.According to the police, Sangeetha, a native of Odisha, had allegedly transported ganja from Odisha to Tiruchi for sale in the city. The other two accused are residents of Ramji Nagar. The police seized the contraband along with the autorickshaw and five mobile phones.The three accused were arrested and remanded in judicial custody. A case has been registered against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and investigation is under way. Published - August 22, 2026 08:12 pm IST
