The Federal Government has approved the next phase of Nigeria’s plan to expand its satellite capacity with the acquisition and deployment of NIGCOMSAT-2A and NIGCOMSAT-2B.
The approval by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) clears the way for Nigeria Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) to proceed with the two next-generation communications satellites.
The satellites are expected to improve internet and communications services, particularly in areas where building traditional telecom infrastructure is difficult or too expensive.
NIGCOMSAT said the new satellites will provide additional capacity for broadband internet, broadcasting, business communications and government services.
They are also expected to improve access to digital services in underserved and hard-to-reach communities.
