Kate Lawler is the first to admit she never wanted to be a mum. But after years of turning down her partner’s pleas to have a child, the star – who once told him, “It’s not for me, babes, but I’d happily get another dog” – had a sudden epiphany on her 40th birthday.

“I woke up one day and thought, ‘I’m in my forties. I’m officially a 40-year-old woman. I feel like I’m ready for something different,’” she says. “My husband was like, ‘A baby?’ After seven years of campaigning for us to have a child I said to him over dinner, “Okay, I think I’m finally ready.’”

Until that point, Kate admits she just “didn’t have that maternal instinct”. She says, “I didn’t have that urge to procreate, but eventually I changed my mind. I was fortunate to get pregnant quickly and I had a really lovely pregnancy and a great birth.”

Kate, now 46, welcomed daughter Noa in February 2021 with her husband Martin Bojtos, 43, who she affectionately calls Boj. But despite her positive experiences of pregnancy and childbirth, she is adamant she doesn’t want any more kids.
