The second week of the preseason is upon us and with that, it gives players on the Eagles' roster bubble a chance to show they're worthy of a 53-man spot. Having said that, it also puts pressure on those who might be on the outside looking in to perform in the game to redeem themselves after poor practices. Here are five players who could potentially play themselves off the roster bubble and get back into the 53-man roster conversation. Enjoy our content? However, he has stacked a few good practices together getting the attention of defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. "He came to life," Fangio told reporters when talking about the defensive tackle's recent performance. "He's been on life support since he's been here, but he came to life and hopefully that will continue." Robinson played 47 snaps at defensive tackle in last week's loss to the Ravens tied with Zion Wilson, for most in the position group and tied for third-most of any player on defense. Both Robinson and Wilson are battling one another for a spot as one of the backup defensive tackles for the Eagles. If Robinson can show some life Saturday against the Patriots, it would bode well for the 25-year-old. Darius Cooper (WR) Cooper appeared to be a candidate to more than likely make the roster with the way he performed during training camp leading up to the first preseason games. Making noteworthy catches, running strong routes and seemingly earning the trust of Jalen Hurts it seemed as if Cooper was safe from being on the bubble. However, in last week's game, the second-year undrafted free agent played the most snaps out of any wide receiver (29) so the team could get a longer look at him. That was more than three times the number of snaps for both Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore (7), who compared to Cooper, needed more to prove based on practice performances. However, it seems like Brown's roster spot is more secure than it initially appeared and perhaps the veteran Moore has a slight advantage at this particular juncture of the summer. Cooper caught two passes for 21 yards but had a key third down drop in the 24-7 loss to Baltimore. He may need to continue to perform well both in camp and in the games to solidify a spot as the WR5.Mac McWilliams (CB)The fifth-round pick out of UCF last year has been solid during training camp and has earned some praise from Fangio, which goes a long way when it comes to the veteran coordinator, saying that the second-year CB has "matured". McWilliams got a ton of playing time last week due to Jakorian Bennett getting injured. McWilliams has already earned some first-team reps in practice and will look to continue his momentum on Saturday continuing to battle for a spot in the cornerbacks room that has the likes of Bennett, newly signed Isaiah Bolden, Tariq Castro-Fields, Ambry Thomas and Shawn Wade all vying for one of the final corner spots on the roster. Cole Payton (QB)The fifth-round pick out of North Dakota State provided the only spark in the team's 24-7 loss to Baltimore where the offense was stagnant. The dual-threat quarterback went 4-for-9 passing for 37 yards and a touchdown along with 45 rushing yards. His two best plays were a 17-yard scramble to keep the scoring drive alive which was capped by a six-yard pass from Payton to wide receiver Erik Ezukanma late in the final quarter. The coaching staff and front office have a good idea on what Andy Dalton and Tanner McKee bring to the table despite lowly performances last week in their backup quarterback battle. However, the Eagles may want to give Payton more runway or at least a series or two earlier in Saturday's game with a better supporting cast to try and get a better evaluation. It's hard to imagine the Eagles carrying four quarterbacks on the initial 53-man roster, although Howie Roseman did acknowledge the possibility. That speaks to the intrigue that Payton provides in his long-term development while McKee is on his final year of his rookie deal. Kapena Gushiken (S)Gushiken generated some buzz as of late after earning first-team reps earlier in the week and making the most of them. Starting out at the JUCO level before transferring to Washington State and then Ole Miss, the undrafted free agent showed great instincts on the field last Saturday. He recorded five tackles with one of them being an impressive solo stop against a larger running back in Adam Randall who is listed at 6-foot-3, 240-pounds compared to the 5-foot-9, 198-pound Gushiken. He will have added competition with the return of this year's seventh rounder Cole Wisniewski back from his hamstring injury. While a lot has been made about who will win the second safety battle between Marcus Epps and Michael Carter II, Gushiken could have a lane to pass the rest of the competition including J.T. Gray, Maximus Pulley and Andre Sam for a depth safety spot. Add us as a preferred source on GoogleFollow
