Damian de Allende and Pieter-Steph du Toit makes a double tackle against the Japan in 2019. Du Toit has praised De Allende ahead of his 100th Test cap against the All Blacks at Ellis Park on Saturday.
Springbok captain Pieter-Steph du Toit believes Damian de Allende’s 100th Test will be a fitting reward for a player he has watched grow from a promising youngster into one of South Africa’s most respected veterans.
De Allende will become the 10th Springbok to reach a century of Test caps when he runs out against the All Blacks at Ellis Park on Saturday, sharing the occasion with Du Toit, who will make his 99th appearance for the Boks.
“To see Damian playing 100 Test matches for the Springboks is an unbelievable honour,” Du Toit said.
“I remember the first time I watched him when he played for the Stormers. He played wing, and I just saw this guy as a beast, especially the way he carried the ball and the way he defended.
