The S&P IPSA, Chile’s blue-chip stock index, rose 0.89% to close at 11,338 points its third gain in four sessions, although fewer than one in five index members advanced, so the move was driven by a narrow set of heavyweights.

The Chilean peso strengthened 0.85% to 914.28 per US dollar with the exchange rate now 6% below its 12-month peak and above the middle of its annual trading range.

SQM-B, the lithium producer, jumped 3.6% on turnover of US$58 million making it both the most-traded and the biggest index gainer of the day.

Copec, the fuel and energy group, rose 2.8% on US$10 million of volume while retailer Falabella added 0.5% as Chile’s largest consumer names posted a mixed session.
