The cases of two men of Azeri origin arrested in Greece and Cyprus on suspicion of spying for Iran have entered a legal limbo, with both remaining in custody despite the absence of active espionage prosecutions against them.
The men were detained separately in Athens and Limassol after intelligence from a country outside the European Union was passed to authorities in both nations.
The first suspect was arrested in Greece on March 2, while the second was detained in Cyprus on July 17.
