The Donald Trump administration is preparing unprecedented financial sanctions aimed at putting further pressure on Iran’s leadership, prompting Tehran to warn that any new U.S. threats would trigger a "crushing, punishing and devastating" response.
Iran Threatens ‘Devastating’ Retaliation
On Friday, Iranian military officials responded with threats of broad retaliation, Reuters reported
Major General Ali Abdollahi, chief of staff of Iran’s Armed Forces, said the country is prepared to respond across multiple domains.
"With preparedness across land, sea, air, air defense and cyberspace, Iran’s armed forces will respond to the enemy’s new threats with crushing, punishing and devastating responses," Abdollahi said, according to Iranian media.
