(Exilenova_plus/Telegram)Editor's note: This is a developing story and is being updated.Ukraine's military reportedly launched an attack on Russia's Samara Oblast overnight on Aug. 22, striking a key oil refinery as well as a commercial logistics center, Russian Telegram media channels reported.Photos and videos posted to social media by local residents appear to show thick black smoke rising from the the Novokuybyshevsk oil refinery following a reported strike.The refinery's capacity amounts to 8.8 million metric tons of oil per year, making it one of the 10 largest refineries in Russia, Ukrainian previously detailed following a separate attack on the facility. The plant produces gasoline, diesel fuel, and fuel oil. Later into the night, a large fire was also seen emanating from a warehouse in the neighboring town of Chapayevsk. The facility is reportedly belongs to the Russian e-commerce giant Ozon, the main competitor to Russia's Wildberries.The communities lie roughly 900 kilometers (560 miles) from the front line in Ukraine. Although it was not immediately clear as to what kind of weaponry was used in the reported attack, Kyiv's forces regularly launch long-range drone strikes on targets deep within Russia.The Kyiv Independent could not immediately verify the reports. Ukraine's military has not yet commented on the attack. The extent of the damage caused was not immediately clear.The latest Ukrainian attack on comes just one day after President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed a strike on Russia's Perm oil refinery overnight on Aug. 21, a city roughly 1,500 kilometers (930 miles) from Ukraine.
