Michael Reaves / Getty ImagesAug. 21, 2026 10:16 pm EDT Updated Suspended Arizona Cardinals executive Ryan Gold has been linked to a second investigation related to his alleged betting activity.The Massachusetts Gaming Commission confirmed Friday that it’s looking into unusual betting within the state that could be connected to Gold providing confidential information about the 2026 NFL Draft. Thomas Mills, the commission’s communications chief, said in an email that any commission investigation “would be in response to reports of unusual betting in the Commonwealth, not necessarily one individual.”ESPN first reported the Massachusetts investigation. The Massachusetts probe follows a similar one the Arizona Department of Gaming opened last month. Suzanne Trainor, communications manager at the Arizona gaming department, said Friday the Arizona investigation remains open and ongoing.
The NFL suspended Gold, the team’s director of college scouting, in July for violating the league’s gambling policy. In a statement, the league stated that an investigation concluded Gold provided information about the Cardinals’ draft selections before they were made public. The league also claimed Gold participated in parlay bets on NFL and college games.Gold, in his 13th year with the Cardinals, is appealing the NFL suspension. ESPN reported he has a hearing scheduled for Sept. 23. Attorney Mike Caspino told The Athletic last month that the accusations against Gold are false.Gold grew up in Westwood, Mass., where he was the captain of his high school football and baseball teams. He attended UMass and graduated with a degree in sports management in 2011. From 2011 to 2013, he worked as an assistant offensive line coach with the school’s football program.
