There is not much the 2026 Baltimore Orioles can get right, but give them credit – they own the Rays. After nearly sweeping a four-game series at Tampa earlier this week, the reeling Orioles snapped their four-game losing streak with a comeback win over Tampa yet again. You wouldn’t think facing a team that was threatening to run away with the pennant a few weeks ago is exactly what Baltimore needed, but they are now 4-1 against Tampa this month and 4-10 against everyone else they’ve faced. On Friday night, after scoring just five times in a sweep by the Yankees, the Orioles manufactured a run on just the first two pitches they faced and then rode the longball as they have been, this time to a 5-3 victory at Camden Yards. Opening Day starter Trevor Rogers fought back after a rough start in which his pitch count was starting to soar to finish seven innings and give up three runs. But anytime the Orioles score more than three runs these days is a big deal. And it was the usual suspects lately getting it done, with Pete Alonso hitting his 30th homer, and driving in three runs."I'm just really happy to come through for this group of guys," Alonso said on the Apple TV post-game show. After such a sluggish performance at the plate against the Yankees, the O's needed a fast start. Jackson Holliday, getting a nice run in the leadoff spot, doubled on the first pitch he saw and Alonso – absolutely carrying this offense since the All-Star break – promptly drove him in.Rookie Dylan Beavers homered in the second inning – his third straight game doing so, breaking out of a funk - as he continues to generate bat speed and get his hands through pitches in the zone. “Three home runs in three days, we’ll take that,” manager Craig Albernaz said during the Apple TV broadcast of the game.Holliday, in great form in the second half of the season himself and taking a much smarter approach to where he is meeting the ball, delivered on a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 3, after an error by former Oriole Jorge Mateo helped send Coby Mayo to third base. Then Alonso provided the lead with an absolute missile to left field that appeared to clear the lower tier of seating and bounce in the promenade for what probably should have been his 31st homer (he got jobbed the other night). Alonso has a hit in 13 straight games, and he has 16 RBIs in 19 games this month, he is batting nearly .400 and slugging over 1200.“It’s a testament to the hitter Pete is,” Albernaz said of his prodigious production during the broadcast.Length And Quality From Rogers Rogers was plenty good, and the bullpen desperately needed him to pitch into the seventh, if not longer. He needed 28 pitches to get through the second inning, in which he gave up a double and a single and a home run to catcher Kenny Piper, his first, and all three Rays runs.Rogers gave up three more hits in the third, but Tampa was unable to plate anyone, and the starter settled down from there. From the fourth through the seventh inning, no one reached except for Liam Hicks on a walk. And a pen that has hit some rough patches took over from there, with Andrew Kittredge handling the eighth and Rico Garcia (who entered just 5-for-10 in save chances) dominating in the ninth.Subscribe To "The Daily Flock" On YouTube For No BS Orioles Coverage:Add us as a preferred source on GoogleFollow
