The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has withdrawn charges filed against a student of Bayero University, Kano, Maryam Shehu, following a backlash from members of the public over her reported detention for nearly 35 days.
Shehu was allegedly arrested and detained for over a month for allegedly committing cybercrime and peddling malicious information against the commission.
The student was arraigned before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday for allegedly sending a message through her Instagram account, “@maryam_shehu,” with the intention of tarnishing the reputation of the commission.
In the message, she allegedly accused EFCC officials of assaulting one Ahmed Uthman on the instruction of a zonal director.
She also allegedly claimed that the zonal director collected N20m from one Usman Abass.
