Super Eagles goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has expressed delight at completing a season-long loan move to Charlton Athletic, explaining that the chance to develop under manager Nathan Jones was central to his decision to snub interest from Bolton Wanderers.
The six-foot-six-inch shot-stopper joined the Addicks from Wrexham as Charlton’s eighth signing of the summer, seeing off competition from Bolton, a club famously associated with Nigerian legend Jay-Jay Okocha, to bring further goalkeeping options to Jones’ squad ahead of the new Championship campaign.
“I’m happy to be here, and I’m ready to go. Coming here, it’s another season where I really want to do well and improve again,” Okonkwo said after completing the move, adding that he had already received a warm welcome from his new teammates.
“Speaking to the manager, that’s what he wants me to do here, not only to do well, but to improve as a goalkeeper,” he said.
