Most fans and observers of the San Francisco Giants will tell you the brutal truth about the team's performance in 2026. Just about every aspect of the San Fran ship has been leaking, and the team was sunk before July due to their inept play and the fact that they share the National League West with their historic rivals and Major League Baseball's modern dynasty, the Los Angeles Dodgers. For some, the season appears to be a disaster; for others, it's just a disgrace. As previously stated, Tony Vitello's first year at the helm for the Giants has seen a team that has struggled with inconsistency and unproven starters in its rotations and a bullpen that hasn't been able to spell 'out' if you spotted them the 'O' and 'U'. The Giants have too many similar hitters in their lineup, creating a lack of offensive identity.https://t.co/GJLLxA799a— Around The Foghorn (@RoundTheFoghorn) August 17, 2026But even that kind of spelling bee error doesn't compare with the dunce cap the team has been wearing at the plate. They may hit a ton at times, but their overall run production has been subpar. That's what's led to a 52-45 record late into August, and a not-so-familiar spot for a team that won three World Series titles in the previous decade. San Francisco is 24.5 games out of first place. But in comparison to LA, they might as well be a million. What's Next for the Giants?Giants manager Tony Vitello | Credit: Darren Yamashita | IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters ConnectThe offensive fireworks have been replaced with a bunch of duds, especially this month. Through August 20, the Giants hit .218 as a team, scored 57 runs in 16 games, and hit 13 home runs. They've only notched two games where they have scored over five runs, and from August 4th through the 16th, things were even worse. The Bay Area Bunch managed just a .181 team average and 18 runs in 8 games during that stretch. While much of this year's run-scoring issues have been blamed on high-priced veteran stars like first baseman-designated hitter Rafael Devers and shortstop Willy Adames, it takes a total team effort to be this bad. The Giants continue to be pedestrian at the plate, even when there's nothing to play for. So, they are clearly a long way from having the kind of batting order that can produce a division championship, let alone a significant run in October. As the club gets started in a three-game series with the Boston Red Sox, they will enter a stadium that's been pretty hitter-friendly. Fenway Park would be a good place to start when it comes to righting San Fran's ship in the batter's box and on the scoreboard. Add us as a preferred source on GoogleFollow
