PHILADELPHIA — On the Phillies’ off day Thursday, Trea Turner and Garrett Stubbs traversed Citizens Bank Park to find what Stubbs called the “best and (a) somewhat obscure” spot for their fantasy football draft. They looked in Ashburn Alley before ending up in the 300s. There they identified a handicapped seating area as the spot to send golf balls into a trash can set up in the outfield.“Because everywhere else the railing would’ve ricocheted the golf ball, and somebody would have gotten hit in the teeth,” Stubbs said. “So (the ground crew) took the railing off and then let us hit up there and then put the railing back on.”About 4 1/2 hours before Friday’s game, the Phillies brought a golf club up and swung for the fences — or, really, the trash can. The best shots determined the order of their fantasy football team; Kyle Schwarber won, followed by Bryson Stott and Stubbs. Twelve players participated in the draft; some are sharing teams, like Stubbs and rookie Andrew Painter and relievers Chase Shugart and Brad Keller, so just one representative competed.
