Taylor Sheridan revealed how he signed an exclusivity deal with Paramount for a jaw-dropping sum after purchasing a Texas ranch for $330 million. The 56-year-old initially had intentions to retire after creating the TV mega-hit Yellowstone, but ended up going back to work after an opportunity arose for him to purchase the 266,000 acre property. Sheridan made the disclosure during this week's episode of the Rodeo Time podcast, saying he believed he had accomplished everything he could in Hollywood before the ranch came up for sale. The writer and director already owned a 600-acre property in Weatherford, Texas, where he dreamed of spending his remaining years. 'I was set up to retire. I was going to be done after Yellowstone. I'd bought the ranch in Weatherford, and I paid cash. I didn't owe anybody anything,' he said. 'And I was going to put my feet up and show horses and have my little hobby herd over here and that was it,' he continued. 'I knew that if I bought this ranch that I was not going to be quitting my day job for a while,' he admitted. Sheridan said the family offered him the ranch for a $330 million, a whopping price tag he was not able to pay upfront. He recalled telling them: 'Well, boys, I'm a little short. I don't have, in fact, I'm about 300 million short.' 'So, they'd been for years trying to get me to sign an exclusive deal with Paramount, and I'd said no,' he added.'But once this happened, I called them and I said, "You know what? I think I'm ready to make an overall deal." They said, "That's great. Do you have a number in mind?" And I said, "Why, yes, I do. I sure do."' After signing the deal, Sheridan led a group of investors to close the deal in 2022; pictured in September 2015Sheridan led a group of investors and purchased the ranch, closing the sale in January 2022. Since he signed the deal with Paramount, the company has been getting serious bang for their buck. Sheridan has created Mayor of Kingstone, Lioness, Landman, Tulsa King and The Madison. He has also created the Yellowstone spin-offs 1883 and 1923. The now uber-wealthy writer-director revealed earlier this week he had previously been cash-strapped and homeless while trying to make it in Hollywood. 'I was homeless twice,' he told Town & Country.'I lived in my car. Sometimes I’d go to Ojai, just somewhere where I could safely sleep. I did that for six months,' he said.'I could have decided at any point, "I’m going to go get a full-time job and I’m going to give up this dream,"' he said. 'And I chose to sleep in my car over that.'
