Gemma soon discovers that she can astral project, much like other characters in the “Insidious” universe. But her abilities go even further: beyond bringing physical objects back from The Further — the timeless, shadowy realm between Earth, Heaven and Hell — she can also summon those who inhabit it into the real world. With that comes a new kind of terror in “Out of the Further,” where trauma and a generational curse get wrapped into one demon’s sinister plan to unleash the dead upon the living. It’s a slight departure from previous “Insidious” films, which largely focused on a single malevolent spirit targeting its chosen victim.According to director Chase, that shift was intentional to give fans a reason to re-engage with the “Insidious” universe.“Anyone in the audience is going to ask, ‘Why are we still making these movies? This is too many “Insidious” movies, right?’” he told Variety of making a sixth installment. “So my big pitch coming into it was, ‘This cannot feel like just another “Insidious” movie. This has to feel like it’s a fresh start.’”He added, “It’s an original film that happens to have ‘Insidious’ in the title was my goal.”It also helps that “Out of the Further” introduces an entirely new family with its own unique dynamics. As Chase recently told MovieWeb, becoming a dad while writing the film deeply influenced its exploration of generational trauma with his own added twist.“I think it taps into this feeling of the worst fear is reliving your past or reliving the sins of your fathers, or mothers in this case, to the film,” he said, “and I think that’s something that honestly all the ‘Insidious’ movies have tapped into a bit.”But “Out of the Further” flips the script, with a message that emphasizes how much the past — and the trauma that comes with it — can’t simply be buried. As Chase points out, Josh Lambert’s (Patrick Wilson) attempts to suppress his supernatural abilities in the original films reinforce the theme of the new movie: that sooner or later, you have to confront your past, no matter how scary the outcome is.“That’s ultimately what this movie is about,” Chase told MovieWeb, “the inability to run from your past, run from your trauma. You have to face it, just like you have to face your own fears of the demons or your own past.”“Insidious: Out of the Further” is now playing in theaters.Latest Live UpdatesMeghan Markle Could Return To Acting In A Netflix Crime HitMeghan Markle is reportedly preparing for her acting comeback, and it seems she already has her first role lined up.Following recent reports that she was “offered a role in an upcoming project based in the U.K.,” Deadline broke the news that Markle is in talks to join Season 3 of Guy Ritchie’s hit Netflix show “The Gentlemen.” However, sources warned that discussions with the Duchess of Sussex are “hypothetical at this point,” as the streamer has yet to renew the crime series, whose second season is set to premiere Sept. 3.The potential role would mark Markle’s most significant acting project since she left the legal drama “Suits,” in which she starred for seven seasons. It would also be a fitting opportunity, given that “The Gentlemen” films in the U.K. and Markle and Prince Harry are planning to return to England for an “extended period of time” after six years in California.Read more below.WATCH: First Trailer For 'The Pitt' Season 3 Reveals Dr. Robby’s Return From Sabbatical“The Pitt” fans, it’s time to clock back in, because the first look at Season 3 is finally here.On Friday, HBO Max unveiled the first trailer for the upcoming season, which picks up a day after Veterans Day, giving fans a glimpse of Dr. Robby’s (Noah Wyle) “crazy” first day back in the ER following his months-long sabbatical.“I knew my first day back was going to be hard, dealing with what we go through in here,” he says in the clip. “And I knew it could get a little bit crazy. She was convicted of six murders committed in Florida between 1989 and 1990 and executed by the state in 2002.In a trailer released Thursday, Paulson makes her debut as Wuornos, looking almost unrecognizable with a jagged blond haircut and barely-there eyebrows. The show’s upcoming season, which centers on Lizzie Borden (played by Ella Beatty), the accused axe murderer widely suspected of killing her parents in 1892, marks the first time the anthology has ever focused on a female “monster.”Although Beatty’s Borden and Paulson’s Wuornos do not directly cross paths in the series, the latter appears in scenes set decades later, depicted as having been inspired by Borden’s legacy.“The show is exploring a legacy of female rage and reaction to the set of circumstances that they are presented with,” Beatty told Netflix’s Tudum. “I think there’s a connection [between Borden and Wuornos] that [co-creators] Ryan [Murphy] and Ian [Brennan] were interested in mapping and exploring.”“Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story” premieres Sept. 17. But audiences around the world seem to agree that the blockbuster deserves all the praise it has received so far, if its numerous box-office records are any indication. Not only is “The Odyssey” Nolan’s biggest film to date and one of the year’s biggest box-office hits, but it has now claimed the record for the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time. The film surpassed 2024’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” after earning $1.352 billion worldwide, according to Variety. On social media, “Deadpool” star Ryan Reynolds wasted no time reacting to the news, taking to X to write, “Congratulations to the entire cast and crew of ‘The Odyssey’ for becoming the highest grossing R-rated movie of all time.”In true Reynolds fashion, the actor also shared a mash-up video featuring his film and “The Odyssey,” jokingly adding in his post, “That is one helluva car.”Read more about the broken box-office record below.Anne Hathaway Addresses Julie Andrews’ Absence From ‘Princess Diaries 3’Anne Hathaway has thoughts about Julie Andrews stepping down as Queen Clarisse in the upcoming third installment of “The Princess Diaries.”Andrews previously shared that she turned down the chance to return to her matriarch role in “The Princess Diaries 3” alongside Hathaway’s Mia Thermopolis, telling Today.com, “It’s her story. It’s not really mine.” Still, Hathaway is holding out hope that her queen may change her mind.“First of all, I just want to say if she has a change of heart, we’re down,” Hathaway recently told Entertainment Tonight at D23, adding that she’d even welcome Andrews narrating the film, similar to her role in Netflix’s “Bridgerton.”The actor said the “Princess Diaries” team did “push really hard” to get Andrews involved in the third film, “but we also want to be respectful.”“Like, for goodness sakes, if anybody has contributed to the world of entertainment and to our collective joy, it’s her,” Hathaway added. “Whatever she wants, we completely understand.”Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Hathaway said she’ll likely miss Andrews’ warmth and “sense of humor” the most once cameras finally roll on the threequel.“She’s so gracious and she’s so funny,” the actor said of her 90-year-old co-star, who starred alongside her in 2001’s “The Princess Diaries” and its 2004 sequel. “She brings magic with her wherever she goes. She’s this amazing love conductor. People feel so safe loving her, and she’s so beautiful at receiving love and giving it back to people. And who doesn’t want to be around people like that.”Read more below.‘It: Welcome To Derry’ Renewed For A Second Season — But 1 Key Figure Won't Be ReturningCue the deadly dancing clown, because “It: Welcome to Derry” is officially returning for a second season. The news comes nearly a year after the hit HBO prequel premiered. According to Deadline, the renewal had been expected for some time now, but the network was waiting to see the creative direction for the new season, which takes place decades before the first during the Great Depression.Still set in the world of Stephen King’s “It” universe, Season 2 of “Welcome to Derry” will take viewers back to 1935, centering on the brutal massacre of the Bradley Gang — a group of bank robbers who stop in Derry to buy gun ammo, only to encounter unimaginable horror.Season 1 was co-showrun by Brad Caleb Kane and Jason Fuchs, who also developed the TV adaptation alongside executive producers Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti. Fuchs, however, will not return for the upcoming season, with Kane stepping in as the series’ sole showrunner.“We are excited to return to the chilling world of Derry and to further expand on Andy and Barbara Muschietti’s horrifically iconic adaptation,” Sarah Aubrey, Head of HBO Max Original Programming, said in a statement. “Together with Brad Caleb Kane, they will break new ground in Season 2, deepening the terror, the mystery, and the unforgettable Pennywise lore that fans love to devour.”Read more below.Melania Trump’s Documentary Is About To Get A Whole Lot BiggerMelania Trump isn’t letting a flop documentary stop her from continuing to tell her story.Despite Amazon’s documentary about the First Lady receiving lackluster reviews earlier this year and earning only a fraction of the $75 million Amazon MGM Studios reportedly spent on the project, Prime Video has decided to expand it — this time into a docuseries. The news was first shared by Marc Beckman, the First Lady’s senior adviser and longtime manager, who said earlier this month on the conservative media network Real America’s Voice that the series would premiere this fall and “show a part of the First Lady that hasn’t been seen yet.”Then, according to The Hollywood Reporter, “Melania” director Brett Ratner posted on Instagram that he “can’t wait to share with everyone around the world the next two chapters of MELANIA, THE DOCU SERIES!”Prime Video has not yet offered any details about the upcoming docuseries. However, Mike Hopkins, head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, confirmed the project on Variety’s “Strictly Business” podcast back in June after saying the initial documentary “did really well.”He added, “We’ll have another bite at the apple when we release the companion docuseries later this year.”Read more below.Taylor Sheridan’s ‘Lioness’ Under Fire For How It ‘Corrupted’ Real-Life Program It’s Based OnAfter three seasons on Paramount+, Taylor Sheridan’s “Lioness” has become a bona fide hit with audiences. However, the real-life team that inspired the spy thriller isn’t nearly as enthusiastic about the show. In part, because its fictional mission bears little resemblance to the group’s actual purpose.Sheridan’s series, which stars Zoe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman, follows a covert CIA task force of female operatives tasked with befriending the wives and daughters of dangerous terrorists to gather intelligence from within in an effort to prevent major attacks.Meanwhile, the real Team Lioness, formed by the U.S. Marine Corps during the Second Iraq War, had no connection to CIA operations. Instead, the group consisted of support soldiers who were tasked with searching women and handling them at checkpoints. Back then, the U.S. Department of Defense’s policy barred women from serving in certain combat roles. But despite those restrictions, Team Lioness members became some of the first female service members to take part in offensive ground combat operations in U.S. military history.Hence, members of the real-life program have taken issue with how Sheridan has reimagined their mission for entertainment purposes in “Lioness.”“It makes me mad that it doesn’t follow what we did at all,” Ranie Ruthig, one of the original members, recently told The Telegraph of the series. “They took the Team Lioness name and twisted it into a spy thing.”“I like Taylor Sheridan’s writing – I’ve watched his other shows,” she added, “but he took our history and kind of corrupted it.”Read more below.Jimmy Kimmel Handed His Show To Rosie O'Donnell As A 'Special Treat' For Donald TrumpRosie O’Donnell’s offer to host “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” this week apparently came with a twist involving President Donald Trump. In a recent interview with Variety, O’Donnell shared that Kimmel (who’s currently on vacation) asked her to guest-host his late-night show “out of the blue” as part of his summer rotation and a “special treat” for Trump, given the president’s 20-year-long feud with the former “The View” host over her past jokes about his bankruptcies on the daytime program.O’Donnell said she was surprised by the gesture, especially since she and Kimmel — whom she described as having an “adversarial relationship” — have never actually spoken in person.“We’ve never spoken on the phone; we’ve texted a few times. Howard Stern tried to make amends with us, so we’ve been at the same parties a few times and I would talk to his wife,” O’Donnell recalled. “But Jimmy was never a fan of mine, and it was kind of an adversarial relationship — not that I was fighting back, but I was like, ‘OK, one of the bro guys…”But according to the comedian, things changed after she reached out to Kimmel following the death of his Uncle Frank Potenza, who made a number of memorable appearances on his show.“When everything happened with his uncle dying, I wrote him and he wrote back,” she said. “So, when my publicist called and said, ‘Do you want to guest-host ‘Kimmel’ for a week?’ I said, ‘I haven’t ever even been a guest!’ And then I said, ‘If you’re positive that that’s an actual offer and he wants me to do it, then I most certainly will.’”“I was surprised, to tell you the truth,” she added, “and very thankful.”Beyond getting the chance to poke at Trump on air, O’Donnell noted that she also accepted the gig to take a stand against the president’s ongoing war on late-night TV, following the cancellation of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” and his repeated digs at Kimmel.“I support [Kimmel] in what he’s doing with the First Amendment, and our ability as entertainers and citizens to speak out against our government that’s enshrined in the Founding Fathers’ writings about our government, so I think he’s fantastic,” she said. “And I wish that Stephen Colbert had the same kind of support when it happened to him, because he shouldn’t be gone either.”Read more below.Matthew McConaughey Reveals He Almost Starred In Hit HBO ShowHBO’s “The Last of Us” almost had a different leading man. That is, if Matthew McConaughey never turned down the part.On a recent episode of the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, the actor revealed that he seriously considered taking on the role of Joel Miller in the TV adaptation, which ultimately went to series star Pedro Pascal. However, as discussions went on, the actor said he wasn’t sure what project would have been good for him to pursue then.“I wasn’t really acting at that point,” McConaughey said. “I think that part of when I was doing more writing and looking at leadership roles in life, and stuff. It was really good. I was really excited.”“‘The Last of Us’ was really good,” he added. “It wasn’t for me at the time.”On a 2023 episode of “Happy Sad Confused,” “The Last of Us” co-creator Craig Mazin confirmed that he was in talks with McConaughey at one point about playing the role of Joel.“I can’t say that it was serious,” he said at the time. “It was more of just like, ‘Hey, here’s something we can talk about.’ ... It’s one of those things where I’m sure there’s an alternate universe where it’s a different guy.”He added: “Look, Matthew McConaughey is an amazing actor. I’m sure it would’ve been great, but it would’ve been different, and I like the one that we made.”’Read more below.See All Updates
