The Dutch privacy regulator says Uber violated E.U. rules by using software alone to deactivate driver accounts, with no human review

Uber $UBER was fined €825 million ($966 million) by the Dutch Data Protection Authority for deactivating driver accounts through automated systems without human review or adequate notification to the drivers affected, the regulator said Friday.
The penalty, issued under the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation, would rank as the second-largest ever under that law, trailing only the €1.2 billion fine that Ireland's regulator levied against Meta $META in 2023 after the company moved European Facebook users' data across the Atlantic in violation of privacy rules, according to Reuters.
