Your Multiview lets Sky Sports subscribers watch up to four sports events at once. Photo: SkyWhile any sports-loving U.K. household will always look forward to the start of the new football season, the moment is also traditionally tainted by the realization that while more matches than ever are being broadcast live, it’s just not going to be possible to watch every live match (never mind all the other live sports events still going on over the coming months) simply because so many of them will be taking place at the same time. For the first time in the U.K., though, there’s now a solution for this perennial sports fan problem. British subscription broadcaster Sky has just launched – on the very day that the new Premier League football season kicks off, handily enough – a new Your Multiview feature that lets Sky Sports subscribers watch up to four different sports feeds simultaneously. Activating Your Multiview calls up to four different windows on your screen, and lets you choose which current live sports event you want to put into each window. So you could simultaneously watch four football matches from different leagues, for instance, or you could simultaneously tune in to one Premier League match, the latest Grand Prix footage, and a golf Major. The new Your Multiview features is available on all of Sky’s main broadcasting platforms: Its Sky Q satellite receiver system, its Sky Glass TVs with their ability to live stream all of Sky’s channels, and the external Sky Stream box that lets ordinary TVs also receive Sky’s channels via streaming. Your Multiview is one of a series of new sports viewing enhancement Sky is introducing through a Sports Hub accessed via the Sky remote control's red button on compatible channels.Photo: SkyMORE FOR YOUSupporting features available with Your Multiview include the ability to adjust the onscreen layout, select which audio feed you want to hear from the four channels being shown, and instantly switch any of the four events to full screen if you decide you want to focus on that one while some major highlight takes place. Your Multiview can be found within the menus accessed through the Sports Hub red button option that’s usually only available on either the Sky Sports Premier League and Sky Sports Football channels. Occasionally, though, the Sports Hub red button option will also appear on other channels during select live matches. Note that the Multiview feature won’t always be available through the Sports Hub; it’s only provided as an option when Sky deems it worth providing. The arrival of the Your Multiview feature on the Sky platform is particularly helpful given that Sky carries by far the most sports coverage of any U.K. broadcaster. Fans can now simultaneously watch football matches from across the Premier League, EFL, SPFL or WSL, or mix all that football action with F1 coverage, cricket, tennis, golf, the NFL or rugby. All without having to keep switching between channels, running to watch a second TV, or trying to just keep up with all the scores on your phone.Your Multiview is actually just the star attraction of a series of new features Sky is introducing to enhance its sports coverage for the new season. Coverage which will this season include more than 1,500 football matches from across the various leagues it has the rights to show. The Sports Hub, for instance, will enable sports fans to see live scores, stats, tables, schedules, short-form clips and match highlights down the side of the screen while they’re still able to keep watching the big match. The hub will also provide access to other games, Sky’s Recap feature, and Multiview.A Clips feature, meanwhile, will let Sky subscribers browse and watch short-form sports videos in a new autoplay, scrollable experience, covering the latest news, highlights, key moments and team/league/competition stories.A new Team Pages service will let you find out everything about your favorite teams in one place, including live game schedules, news headlines, replays, Youtube clips and reminders of when a live broadcast game is coming up.Sky has also refreshed the Live Sports Rail that appears on the home page of its proprietary onscreen menu system, making it easier to see what’s happening live, what’s coming up and exactly when events start. Real Time is rather vaguely described as a feature that lets you “get closer to every goal, decision and big moment as it happens on Sky Glass and Sky Stream [so not, it seems, Sky Q] across Sky Sports Football, Sky Sports+ and Sky Sport Premier League,” while a new Moments feature on the Sky Sports App lets sports fans access a personalized vertical video feed of highlights, analysis, interviews, reaction and behind the scenes content. Finally, Multiview and a Key Plays features are launching for Sports members on Sky’s separate Now TV service.“There’s more live sport for fans to enjoy than ever, and we want to make it as easy as possible to follow all the action,” says Carli Kerr, MD of Sky TV & Now. “With ‘Your Multiview’, viewers no longer have to choose between the biggest moments happening across multiple channels. It could be two exciting football matches happening at the same time, or Super Sunday coinciding with a Grand Prix and the final day of a golf Major. “Only on Sky can fans enjoy so much sport together on one screen and stay in control of what they watch. Along with scores, stats, and clips at the touch of a button, this is another way we’re making Sky the best place to watch live sport.”
