There are a number of Pittsburgh Steelers who enter the team's second preseason game with a lot on the line. The Steelers' roster outlook became a bit more clear in the team's 28-9 win over the Green Bay Packers last week, but there's still plenty of decisions left to be made before final cuts on August 30.With so much still left up in the air, here are five players in do-or-die situations as Pittsburgh gets set to host the New York Jets at Acrisure Stadium.Kaleb JohnsonTruth be told, Johnson's chances of cracking the 53-man roster may have already flown out the window. The 2025 third-round pick recorded just three yards on two carries in the preseason opener, and his lack of usage on special teams combined with his shortcomings in the passing game make him somewhat of a one-trick pony at running back.Because he was a late Day 2 selection just a year ago, however, Johnson might be given more of an opportunity to prove that he has some untapped potential. While it feels like his fate is all but sealed, perhaps a standout showing against the Jets could shift the narrative surrounding his name at the moment.Aug 13, 2026; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA; Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Kaden Wetjen (10) returns a kick-off against the Green Bay Packers during the third quarter at Acrisure Stadium. Still, Wetjen has to be cautious and show that he's making progress with a strong game vs. New York.Ryan McCollumIf the Steelers end up keeping four quarterbacks on their 53-man roster, McCollum's odds of making it would likely decrease.Assuming Spencer Anderson wins the starting right guard job, Brock Hoffman would slot in as the backup center behind Zach Frazier while also being able to fill in at guard, which may render McCollum obsolete with a potential roster crunch at play. After logging 25 total snaps against the Packers (per Pro Football Focus), McCollum will likely see the field quite often vs. the Jets as well and must make some sort of statement to boost his chances of making the team for a third-straight year.Dec 15, 2024; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA; Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Dean Lowry (94) on the sidelines against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. Because Gabriel Rubio seems to be separating himself from the competition, however, Lowry might need a surge of sorts against the Jets if he wants to make the 53-man roster considering Pittsburgh might only hang onto six players on the interior of the defensive line.Rayshawn JenkinsIf Jalen Ramsey is healthy to open the regular season, and that's a big if, it would seem likely that the Steelers will keep just one true backup safety behind Jaquan Brisker and DeShon Elliott.Seventh-round rookie Robert Spears-Jennings' time in Latrobe may not have ended as well as it started, but it's hard to believe Jenkins is in a better spot when it comes to making the 53-man roster than him. That position battle isn't over, though, and it's possible Jenkins could push himself to the front of the line with a nice performance against the Jets.Make sure to bookmark Steelers On SI, and find our podcast All Steelers Talk on YouTube or anywhere you listen!Add us as a preferred source on GoogleFollow
