Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Ghent University in Belgium suspended Nathan Cofnas, the postdoctoral scholar who accused the late Dr. Jason Arday of plagiarism.

The university said in a statement on Thursday that the suspension is a precautionary measure as it investigates Cofnas' recent public statements. Cofnas who has described himself as a "race realist" and presened arguments that genetics serve a "non-trivial role" in the differences in intelligence among races.

Arday, an author and professor of sociology at the University of Cambridge, was Black. He died last Friday at the age of 41. He was the youngest Black Cambridge professor in the university's history.

In a newsletter published last month, Cofnas accused Arday of plagiarism in his doctoral dissertation. The newsletter sparked questions about Arday's life story including allegations that parts of his story were untrue, leading to his resignation earlier this month.
