Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called for an end to the conflict with the United States, asserting that Tehran should conclude the war while operating from a position of “power and dignity.” His remarks come against a backdrop of escalating U.S. economic pressure, trade disruptions, and mounting domestic concern over the conflict’s economic toll.
Speaking on Friday, August 2, at the 31st General Assembly of the Islamic Association of the Iranian Medical Society, Pezeshkian argued that it is best to wrap up the war “today while we are in a position of power and honor,” claiming that the international community acknowledges Iran’s resilience. He simultaneously emphasized that the armed forces remain fully prepared to defend the country if hostility continues.
Addressing public discontent over inflation, fuel costs, and living conditions, Pezeshkian noted the contradiction between supporting confrontational state slogans and protesting the resulting economic fallout. He stated that if citizens support official anti-Western rhetoric, they must also be prepared to endure the associated financial hardships.
Pezeshkian previously framed diplomatic engagement with Washington not as surrender, but as a strategic effort to end the war, lift naval blockades, and unfreeze blocked financial assets.
